2020 CFP AND CALL FOR MENTORS ARE CLOSED
2020 was another year of growth for BSidesSATX , and our CFP and review program. We received 67 total submissions to our CFP and introduced a new double-blind review process.

- 67 talks submitted, 34% higher than our 2019 CFP and nearly 60% higher than we received in 2018
- Of the talks submitted, 27 (40%) were accepted at final count
Submissions by track
This was our first year utilizing a blind CFP review process & formalized submission rating system. We assembled a CFP review board including members outside of conference staff to select talks from those submitted:
Our accepted talks had an average rating of 3.29/5, with an average submission rating 2.78. The 3.29 rating excludes submitters which were offered a speaking slot, but later withdrew their talk or were otherwise unable to present at BSidesSATX 2020.
- The review board consisted of 8 members, over 50% from the wider infosec community
- Speaker identities -- names, employers, and other biographical details were withheld from CFP reviewers
- Each reviewer rated CFP submissions on a 5-point scale (0-5) for novelty, accuracy, and overall appeal
- From the reviewed talks, CFP staff selected the highest rated talks (& with lowest variance among individual reviews)

We received 3 requests from speakers interested in our mentorship program this year, 57% lower than last year. Unfortunately, none of these talks were accepted through our CFP review process. We'll be working over the next year to improve this program, and better integrate it with the blind review process for 2021.
